There are many times in life that we do not understand what the Lord is doing. The Scripture prepares us for these times with statements like we find in Isaiah 55:9 where we are told explicitly, “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.” But it still hard to fully comprehend this in the moment.
Matthew 14:22-33 describes one of these moments when Jesus’ disciples simply could not understand what their Master was doing. There were several things that seemed to them like a mystery. Perhaps, they were not the only disciples who were a bit baffled by the Lord’s ways.
This great text prepares us for similar times when we also may be outmatched by the Master’s game plan in life. Relax. Don’t panic. He knows what He is doing; and best of all, He is quite able to accomplish all that He has in mind for each one of us. Trust Him when His sovereignty appears to you like a mystery.
