Have you ever had a subtraction of your satisfaction? It can happen. However, despite what Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones claimed back in the ‘60s about never being able to obtain satisfaction, the truth is that satisfaction is possible, if we look for it in the right place.
The amazing thing in Psalm 63 is that when his circumstances were trying to take away from his contentment, David knew where to go to renew his soul spiritually. David was forced to evacuate the palace and run into the wilderness. His son Absalom was dissatisfied, out of control and was leading a revolt to overthrow the king. Now the king has surviving in very rustic and primitive conditions in the back woods. Can you imagine how uncomfortable? Surely, on some levels, there must have been a subtraction from his satisfaction. And yet, he says, “My soul will be satisfied…”
He wrote down how he took a “You-Turn” and rediscovered satisfaction. He walked in the direction of the Lord Himself for fulfillment as demonstrated by the 15 references to the personal pronoun “You” for the Lord. Isaiah would say that David, “With joy…drew water from the wells of salvation.” Isaiah 12:3.
No wonder Paul said in Philippians 4:11-13, “…for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.” Paul’s “secret”? He went on to say, “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.” He knew the same secret that David knew out in the wilderness.
