Martinus Evans joins me for today’s episode. Martinus is a certified run coach in a 300 pound body and has run over eight marathons since his doctor told him to “lose weight or die” in July 2012. Since then, he’s also coached hundreds of runners and founded the Slow AF Run Club, a community of over 10,000 members worldwide. Martinus is the author of the book “Slow AF Run Club: The Ultimate Guide For Anybody Who Wants To Run.” He has also been featured in multiple reputable publications such as New York Times Men's Health, HuffPost, and Wall Street Journal.
Martinus shares the importance of finding the joy, rather than the shame, in our health and the way we view physical activity, how to celebrate moving your body rather than getting to the finish line, and how he navigates self doubt during his races.
Today’s episode covers:
- What led Martinus to do the opposite of his doctor’s advice
- Finding the joy of running
- Reframing exercise as joyful movement
- Don’t celebrate whether or not you finish
- Valuing the experiences along the way
