The next time you're at an airport terminal for your flight, take a look around you. It's a fascinating circus of the human condition. The old school are reading books, while the digitally hooked scroll through their phones and laptops; the tired sneak naps, while the hungry munch on overpriced fast-food. Some stare aimlessly out the wide windows at the choreography of launching and landing planes. One thing unites us all -- we're all patiently waiting for the gate door to swing open.
In many ways, this world is one big terminal gate. We're all waiting, when you think about it. However, it's not for a departing plane but for the return of the person of Jesus Christ. In the parable in today's Gospel of the ten virgins, Jesus tells us to be like the five wise ones who used their wait times shrewdly. What separated the two groups? It's entirely up to us with how we spend that time at the "gate".
