Eight Reasons Why We Need the Holy Spirit
1. Because we are weak.
The Holy Spirit gives us: Power & Confidence
(Acts 1:8) "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
(Acts 4:31 MSG) "While they were praying, the place where they were meeting trembled and shook. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak God's Word with fearless confidence."
2. Because we are not as smart as God
The Holy Spirit gives us: Guidance
(Romans 8:12-16) "Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation—but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it. For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father." The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children.
3. Because we are weak in times of crisis
The Holy Spirit gives us: Prayer
(Romans 8:26) "In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express."
4. Because Satan's power is real
(Ephesians 6:10-17) "Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."
(Ephesians 6:18) "And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints."
The Holy Spirit gives us: Warfare
5. Because our attitudes and emotions fluctuate
The Holy Spirit gives us: Stability
(Ephesians 4:3) "Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace."
(Galatians 5:22-23) "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
6. Because we cannot change ourselves
The Holy Spirit gives us: Holiness
(Romans 8:13) "For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live,
7. Because we are in the last days
The Holy Spirit gives us: Discernment
(1 Timothy 4:1) "The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons."
8. Because we need to connect with God
The Holy Spirit gives us: Worship
(Acts 2:11) "…we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!"
(Acts 10:46) "For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God."
