Message Title: A Place to Hide

(Jonah 1:1) “The word of the LORD came to Jonah…..”

(Jonah 1:2) "Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it…”

1.      He speaks.

Whenever God calls us to do something, it always requires action…

2.      We run.

(Jonah 1:3) “But Jonah ran away from the LORD”

(Jonah 1:4)Then the LORD sent a great wind on the sea, and such a violent storm arose that the ship threatened to break up.”

(Jonah 1:4-5)All the sailors were afraid and each cried out to his own god. And they threw the cargo into the sea to lighten the ship. But Jonah had gone below deck, where he lay down and fell into a deep sleep.”

 3.      Others pay

“Sin will take you farther than you want to go and cost you more than you are willing to pay.”

“God starts off by tapping you on the shoulder, the second time, He calls out your name, the third time He gets a baseball bat and hits you on the head.”

(Jonah 1:12) "Pick me up and throw me into the sea," he replied, "and it will become calm. I know that it is my fault that this great storm has come upon you."

 4.      He provides

(Jonah 1:17)But the LORD provided a great fish to swallow Jonah”

 Running from God has consequences

(1 Corinthians 10:13) (NLT)  “The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.”
