(Genesis 2:22, 25 LB) “Then God made…a woman and brought her to the man. ‘This is it!’ Adam exclaimed…the man and his wife were both naked, but neither was embarrassed or ashamed.”
(Genesis 3:7-9) “Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden. But the LORD God called to the man, ‘Where are you?’”
What can we do with our sexual sin?
1. We can bury it.
(Proverbs 28:13) “He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.”
2. We can beat ourselves up.
(Psalm 38:4-8) “I am drowning in the flood of my sins, they are a burden too heavy to bear. Because I have been foolish, I’m utterly worn out and crushed, my heart is troubled…”
3. We can blame others.
(Genesis 3:13) “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
4. We can begin a fresh start.
(Philippians 3:13-14) “Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
(Romans 8:1-2) “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.”
(Ezekiel 36:25-27) “I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.”
How can I have no more shame?
1. Repent.
(Hebrews 13:4) – “God will judge the sexually immoral”
(2 Corinthians 6:17-18) “Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you. I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”
2. Receive forgiveness.
(Isaiah 1:18) “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.”
(Psalm 103:12) “As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.”
(Hebrews 8:12) “For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”
(Hebrews 9:14) “How much more, then, will the blood of Christ…cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death…”
3. Reorder your life.
(2 Corinthians 7:1) “Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.”
(Galatians 5:1) “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”
