(1 Corinthians 14:1 LB) “Make love your greatest aim…”
Title: A Heart for What Matters
1. A Heart for God.
(Matthew 6:32-33 CEV) ““Only people who don’t know God are always worrying about such things. Your Father in heaven knows that you need all of these. But more than anything else, put God’s work first and do what He wants. Then the other things will be yours as well.”
How to Know and Show That God Matters?
• Time.
If someone were to look at your and my calendar would they see God as a priority in my life?
• Possessions.
When it comes to my possessions, does God matter?
• Obedience.
(John 14:21) “If you love me, you will do what I said.”
Is my life a reflection of my obedience to God or my desires?
2. A Heart for People.
3 Reasons Why You Matter to God
• Because of who you are.
(Genesis 1:27) “So God created man in his own image…”
• Because of what you cost.
(1 John 4:8-10) “God is love. In this was the love of God displayed where we are concerned: in that He sent His only Son into the world so that we might live through Him. In this is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.”
• Because of what you can become.
(Ephesians 2:10) "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
(Jeremiah 29:11) "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
3. A Heart for the Church.
(1 Kings 8:17-18) “My father David had it in his heart to build a temple for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel. But the LORD said to my father David, ‘Because it was in your heart to build a temple for my Name, you did well to have this in your heart.”
(1 Kings 9:3) The LORD said to him: “I have heard the prayer and plea you have made before me; I have consecrated this temple, which you have built, by putting my Name there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there.”
(1 Kings 9:3 Message) And God said to him, “I’ve listened to and received all your prayers, your ever-so-passionate prayers. I’ve sanctified this Temple that you have built: My Name is stamped on it forever; my eyes are on it and my heart in it always.”
4. A Heart for the World.
(John 3:16) “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
(2 Corinthians 9:6-7) “Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
