“The Holy Spirit”

Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?” Acts 2:12-17 (NIV)

Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.” Acts 2:12-17 (NIV)

Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. Acts 2:12-17 (NIV)

These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! Acts 2:12-17 (NIV)

No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: “‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people… Acts 2:12-17 (NIV)

He is not AN IT.

How you see Him will determine how you relate to Him.

He is not WEIRD.

Don’t make your decisions about God based on the behavior of people.

1. He is my INNER VOICE.

And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment. John 16:8 (NLT)

Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 12:3 (NIV)

2. He is my TEACHER.

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. John 14:26 (NIV)

But you have received the Holy Spirit, and he lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spirit teaches you everything you need to know, and what he teaches is true—it is not a lie. So just as he has taught you, remain in fellowship with Christ.  1 John 2:27 (NLT)

3.  He is my GUIDE.

But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. John 16:13 (NIV)

Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” Isaiah 30:21 (NIV)

4.  He is my FRIEND.

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever… John 14:16 (NIV)

The amazing grace of the Master, Jesus Christ, the extravagant love of God, the intimate friendship of the Holy Spirit, be with all of you. 2 Corinthians 13:14 (MSG)

Don’t grieve God. Don’t break his heart. His Holy Spirit, moving and breathing in you, is the most intimate part of your life, making you fit for himself. Don’t take such a gift for granted. Ephesians 4:30 (MSG)

1. Holy Spirit SHOW ME.

I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. Ezekiel 36:26-27 (NIV)

Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm 139:23-24 (NIV)

You don’t need me telling what is right and wrong… you need to lean into what HE is trying to show you.

2. Holy Spirit CHANGE ME.

For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2 Corinthians 3:17-18 (NLT)

So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image. 2 Corinthians 3:17-18 (NLT)

I’m not where I want to be, but I’m not where I used to be.

3. Holy Spirit FILL ME.

Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit… Ephesians 5:18 (NLT)

Being filled with the Spirit doesn’t make me better than you… it makes me better than me.
