Christians in the early church had only the Old Testament scriptures at first.Then the Holy Spirit used new believers to write the New Testament. Matthew's Gospel gave assurance to the new Jewish believers in new local assemblies all over the empire, that their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ was placed on the real King of the Jews.
