We began a series this Sunday called BOld Testament, looking at some of the heroes of the Hebrew Scriptures. Too often, followers of Jesus neglect the Old Testament, and yet this is the Bible that Jesus and the earliest disciples knew and lived from.
To kick off this series we looked at Noah and the flood in Genesis 6:9-22. To many, this is nothing but a sentimental children's story. To some, it is hard to see anything beyond the death and destruction. But we focused on Noah's calling and the flood as a story that tells us about God's passion (for life and for justice) and God's compassion (for people and for creation). Our world puts judgement and grace, love and wrath, against each other, but the holy ways of God teach us this is false.
Bottom line: Grace and judgement are not opposites for a just God.
P.S. We also celebrated a great group of graduates on Sunday. Congrats class of 2021.
