Description

We continued our series Buried Treasures this week by looking at the gift of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost in Acts 2:1-18. Many people today are confused or even doubtful about the work of the Spirit, as were some of the onlookers in Acts 2. But why shouldn't the presence of the living God make an impact on people they can't explain?

We saw last week that Jesus promised something big would happen in Jerusalem after ascended. In Acts 2, Peter defends Pentecost as a fulfillment of what God had promised long ago through the prophet Joel. This promise is not just for disciples from 2000 years ago, or for super-Christians, or certain denominations - the Spirit for every follower of Jesus. Nothing we do as a church is possible without the Spirit.

Bottom line: The Holy Spirit is the promise that keeps us.
