Description

We began our new Lent series Heroes on Ash Wednesday with a look at a virtue that helps us define every virtue: temperance. Also known as self-control, this quality of moderation reminds us that every virtue exists in between excess and deficiency. This also fits because Lent is traditionally a season of extra self-control, with many Christian traditions practicing some sort of fasting.

To look more closely at temperance, we look at Princess Leia Organa from the Star Wars universe. Always in control, whether as a diplomat, general, mom, or princess, Leia is a great cultural touchstone for this practical virtue.

What are you fasting from this season? How will you draw closer to God during Lent? The good news is the virtues are not just something that we do, but gifts that God grows in us by the Holy Spirit.

God did not send Jesus to make us comfortable; God sent Jesus to make us holy.
