I am absolutely humbled to present to you a VERY SPECIAL PODCAST: Ralph Myerz.
If the name doesn't ring a bell, his music surely will. From being featured on the GTA IV soundtrack to Hed Kandi to working with legends like Snoop Dogg, Talib Kweli, George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Annie, Röyksopp, Datarock etc. etc.
But enough with the namedropping. I have a personal reason why this is special for me. I discovered Ralph Myerz much the same way the rest of Norway did, through the genius of Mikal Tellé. On what was once declared one of Norway's most seminal albums: Tellé Samleplate 007, you could find pretty much before anywhere else, the future of Norwegian and Bergen electronica: Who single-handedly curated and made famous the cream of Norwegian Electronica: Röyksopp, Annie, Datarock, Kings of Convenience, and of course Ralph Myerz (and the Jack Herren Band).
And while their early Special EP and Special Album brought us the legendary lounge hits Nikita, A Special Morning and Think Twice; it was really their live performances that has stood out for me: Inspired by Kiss and heavy metal bands, they completely revolutionised what it meant to do an electronic live show: Pyrotechnics, double drum kits and of course smashing all the kit to pieces at the end. A RM&tJHB gig was something you'd be sure to remember for the rest of your life and as far from a guy pretending to fiddle knobs to a premixed set you could ever find. And this was the early 2000s!
So it is with immense humility I present an EXCLUSIVE 2 HOUR++ mix from one of my all time heroes, featuring some rare and exclusive tracks (you will notice them in the tracklist, written by Erlend himself). Enjoy this journey through disco, new disco, rare grooves, afrobeat and deep and funky house. It is a rare and delicious treat and I am proud to have him on my podcast.
