Jimmy Cliff (born James Chambers; July 30, 1944 – November 24, 2025) was a pioneering Jamaican musician and actor credited with introducing reggae to a global audience. Cliff starred as Ivanhoe Martin in the landmark Jamaican film. "The Harder They Come," which is widely regarded as the catalyst for reggae’s international popularity. He achieved mainstream success with songs like "Wonderful World, Beautiful People" (1969) and "Vietnam" (1970). His 1993 cover of "I Can See Clearly Now" for the Cool Runnings soundtrack reached #1 in several countries. Cliff won two Grammy Awards for Best Reggae Album: Cliff Hanger (1985) and Rebirth (2012). Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted in 2010, he remains one of only two Jamaicans in the Hall of Fame alongside Bob Marley. In 2003, the Jamaican government awarded him the Order of Merit, the nation's fourth-highest honor.
