Lucky Philip Dube (1964–2007) was a South African reggae legend and the continent's all-time best-selling reggae artist. Over a 25-year career, he released 22 albums in English, Zulu, and Afrikaans. After starting in Zulu pop (Mbaqanga), Dube switched to reggae in 1984 to use it as a platform against Apartheid. His first reggae album, Rastas Never Die (1984), was banned by the South African government. He gained global fame with albums like Slave (1987), Prisoner (1989), and Victims (1993), the latter selling over a million copies worldwide.
