The title of today's show is "Why the Lord Hates Certain Things." So, I guess we should start with … what does the Lord hate? He hates evil and wickedness. On the opposite end of that spectrum, He loves righteousness and goodness. We are to love what He loves and hates what He hates. That said, Jesus doesn't hate people. He LOVES people. All people. He does hate the evil and wicked behaviors of people because those actions affect others…others who He loves.
Do we love those people?
Do we realize we are those people sometimes? Ohh … ouch… that's never fun to hear, but it's a reality. None are perfect and sometimes, our actions affect others. I've had to apologize on more than one occasion when I've said something stupid and hurtful to someone. 😔 I believe as we walk closer with the Lord, we will see less and less of those behaviors in our lives. But there will always be room for growth … until we move on from this life.
Let's look at one of the areas in the Bible where it speaks of the things the Lord hates. Proverbs 6:16-19 tells us that the Lord hates…
haughty eyes
a lying tongue
hands that shed innocent blood
a heart that devises wicked schemes
feet that are quick to rush into evil
a false witness who pours out lies
and a person who stirs up conflict in the community."
Did you know these are things the Lord hates? Are they the things that you're so adamantly against? Are they the "BIG" sins we speak so loudly about?
Hmmm… Or, are these possibly things that we do, so maybe we don't speak about them … because we're guilty of them? As I read through this list, I believe the latter might be the case more often than we would like to admit.
