Listen to John Franken, Atomic Bomb survivor, who now visits Canadian schools to raise awareness of the horror of war, what it meant to be a Prisoner of War in Japan, and how at age 87, he is one of the last surviving witnesses to the bombing of Nagasaki on August 9, 1945. Notice he has the same last name as me. That is because John Franken is my dad who I am proud of beyond words.
CBC aired an award nominated documentary in August, 2005 about his experiences, on the program Rough Cuts in an episode entitled "Tea at the Embassy'. Despite the horrors of war that John has both witnessed and endured, he is one of the most optimistic, high-spirited and wisest people you can ever meet. He is an inspiration to all who know him which is why I am so pleased to share him with you today.
