Description

When it comes to fighting and disagreements, we don’t usually think of tactics to keep our arguments civil.  But the act of fighting gracefully can be the difference of resolving issues and just staying angry at each other.  When we scream, swear, or deflect all the blame onto someone else in a fight, we close the door to resolve the issue at hand, and do damage both to ourselves and to the other person in the process.

In this episode, I give clear steps you can take next time you get into a disagreement with someone.  Those steps begin with looking inward and evaluating how we feel.  Using “I” statements helps the other person understand how we are feeling.  We discuss how timers and taking breaks can be greatly beneficial to keeping the conversation productive and prevent it from going off track. We even talk about how to agree to disagree without making the other person feel that they are wrong.

Whether you live with a spouse, family, or roommates, everyone can benefit from learning how to effectively communicate even when disagreements arise.
