Description

I’ve recently been watching OWN’s show Black Love about relationships. Although we haven’t talked much about relationships up to this point on the podcast, there are a few things that has really stood out to me by watching this show that I wanted to share with you today.

First of all, I really appreciate the vulnerability of each couple on the show and their willingness to talk about difficult things like going to therapy or understanding their partner’s love language. Feelings of “love” or fondness are not enough to sustain a relationship. It takes work.

One of the main takeaways that I have gained while watching that I wanted to share with you today is the role of self-awareness in relationships. If you do not know who you truly are, how can you show up fully for someone else? We have to put just as much emphasis on getting to know ourselves (not just our partners) in order to fully nurture our relationships.

We would LOVE to hear from you. What are some of the struggles you have in relationships? What have you learned?  Do you feel like self awareness is important in relationships? Connect with us at media@itsallmentalpodcast.com and let us know!
