If you were to describe a Christian who is living a Spirit-filled life, what would he or she look like? Maybe it would be a preacher who is powerfully proclaiming the Word of God. Maybe it is a missionary on the front lines of world evangelization. Maybe it is someone who is speaking in tongues at church or raising their heads. It is easy to look at these different pictures and think, "Wow, that person must be filled with the Holy Spirit."
In this episode of the Biblical Counseling Podcast, pastor Jeff Christianson challenges our unspoken assumptions concerning the nature of the Spirit-filled life. It is easy for Christians to see some great public demonstrations of a Christian as an example of being Spirit-filled. The problem with these pictures is that they can set unrealistic expectations for Christians concerning the Christian life. In passages such as Ephesians 5:18–21, Paul's description of the Christian life is simultaneously counterintuitive and challenging.
