I am in the cycle of music where it is important to me what an artist says as it becomes harder to discern who is telling the street stories and who is only telling the street stories for money. Hip hop sounds will most likely always be about finding meaning in a struggle or beauty in imperfection. The orator that speaks on these subjects can mobilize the masses to take up arms or they can have the listener ponder their significance. It is my opinion that Oddissee is an orator of wisdom, applying perspective to scenarios that are often addressed with aggressive, quick sometimes hasty decision-making. Oddissee is a producer, rapper born in Maryland from a Black American mother and a Sudanese father. He grew up in Prince George County, the wealthiest AA county in US, but also next to the more impoverished neighborhoods of DC. He is now out on tour for his 10th studio album, The Good Fight, which features the band The Good Company and which I saw live back in November 2015. The live show confirmed for me that the lyrics he writes are personal, heartfelt, and words which transcend the genre, meaning that they apply directly to humanity.
