Wu Tang Clan reasserted east coast hip hop as the dominant sound at the end of the 'Golden Era' in the first half of the 1990's. Dr. Dre, Snoop, and fellow west coast artists were controlling the airwaves with gangster themes pervasive in the media. It can be debated as to how relevant the banging lifestyle was at the time, but the Wu Tang Clan brought back a witty, intelligent lyricism that connected to critics as well as to people in the streets. The combination of RZA's production and the emcee's aggressive delivery made for a record never heard before. Wu Tang Clan ain't nuttin' to mess wit'. Also featured is my new math song about the number pi.
