Marli Crowe is our special guest on episode 14. Originally from Phoenix, AZ, Marli graduated from Spelman College with a degree in Economics and currently resides in Atlanta, GA.

By day, she is a Business Development Coordinator at Sensis, a multicultural advertising agency. However, when her friends asked for her help in applying to openings at her company, Marli saw a need to help them better position themselves by upgrading their substandard resumes and cover letters.

In June 2018, Marli founded Crowe Career Services, a company with expertise in resume and cover letter writing, LinkedIn optimization, interview preparation, and career coaching.

Some key points Marli shares:

1. Networking is extremely important and can make the difference between getting a job even if the other candidate’s skills aren’t as strong as yours.

2. It’s imperative to make sure that your resume is up-to-date and is filled with keywords pertaining to the job for which you’re applying.

3. Having an active and up-to-date LinkedIn page is a must. Not having one signals to employers that you aren’t serious about your job search.

4. Even if you don’t think you have all of the experience requested for the job, shoot your shot! Some jobs receive very few resumes; you might be keeping yourself from a job for which you would be a good candidate.

5. When you’re just starting your career, you will likely have to start from the bottom. Fret not, because you will get to your ideal job - even if it's in a different field than your college major - once you gain more job-related experience.
