Right now around Australia there are hundreds of researchers working on interesting projects across a range of disciplines. Some of them we hear about in the mainstream media, but most of them we don’t and Australia misses out on learning about their discoveries. Meanwhile, many postgraduate students and academics are wanting to share their work with the public, but aren’t quite sure how. They publish their research in academic journals and present at conferences but don’t have a lot of support to connect outside their own sector.
To address this, PhD student at La Trobe University Edwina Kay hatched a plan together with JOY 94.9 presenter Steph Amir. Edwina organised media training for the postgraduate students at La Trobe and Steph agreed to interview the participants for her show, Is Nothing Sacred. Sixteen people attended the training and thirteen of them came into JOY to be interviewed or were interviewed over the phone about their research.
This podcast is an abridged version of those interviews and is a small contribution to making academic research more accessible.
Thank-you to the La Trobe University Intellectual Climate Fund of the Graduate Research School and the College of Arts Social Sciences and Commerce and the JOY production team who supported this project.
