We start with challenging music this week, first with the disonance of the gloomy sounding “From the House of the Dead” and move on to, in times of virus, doing the opposite of what the second piece commands, “Hide not thou thy face”.
But not all is gloomy. Bells (les cloches) lift our spirits in several pieces as we wait for Tavener’s peace and serenity when lockdown is over. That peace is entirely fitting – this programme was originally broadcast on Easter Sunday 2020.
