On the returning episode of The I in Us for 2026 Paul and Cody welcomed Stephanie Summers. Stephanie is an Australian intersex community member, LGBTQIA+ field umpire and athlete Stephanie Summers to the JOY 94.9 airwaves.
During Melbourne’s Midsumma Carnival (Sunday 18 Jan 2026) Stephanie reluctantly approached the InterAction/IPSA information marque and bravely disclosed to Bonnie, Kylie and Gwen that she is intersex. When I returned from a wander Stephanie, a 47XXY individual from Melbourne was introduced to me, and within the shortest time, Stephanie felt comfortable to open up to us all.
Growing up wasn’t easy nor good for Stephanie as both her mother’s and father’s sides of her family didn’t accept how she was born, and who she is. But now Stephanie has found her accepting, supportive intersex family and she shares her perspective on being intersex and her experiences as an elite athlete on this wonderful show.
