The pilot show packs a punch having songs from Madonna, Salt-n-Pepa, and Timberland. The final track of the show will get its pair in the next episode.
“The Source” explores popular music with the aim to discover if it has been “borrowed” from other songs. The show will go back to the source of popular songs, and play the songs they have sampled from.
Cyprus Hill’s “Hits from the Bong” has sampled Dusty Springfield’s “Son of a Preacher Man”. In fact this song also samples from Lee Dorsey’s “Get Outta My Life Woman” one of the most sampled tracks in Hip Hop history.
Without these two samples the song would be vocals and sound effects.
The coda of the Rogue Traders song “In Love Again” features a sample of “Head Over Heels” by Tears for Fears.
Head over heels was also sampled by other artists including Leona Lewis, Cash Money, Marvellous and Diddy.
“Ms Jackson” by Outkast has sampled “Strawberry Letter 23” by the Brothers Johnson. The tracks sound different due to pitch shifting and reversing. Of course the song also features an altered version of a tune from “Bridal Chorus” from the opera Lohengrin by German composer Richard Wagner (also known as the “Wedding March”), played on piano.
