In the 63rd episode of KUNSTPAUSE, Felix von Boehm and Charlotte Paulus speak with curator Lisa Botti, curator at the Neue Nationalgalerie, and the artist Beeple (Mike Winkelmann) about the exhibition Beeple. Regular Animals. At the center of the conversation is Beeple’s installation Regular Animals (2025), in which autonomous robotic dogs with hyper realistic heads of cultural and tech figures move through the space. They capture and process images using artificial intelligence and generate new visual outputs that reflect on perception, authorship, and the growing influence of algorithmic systems on image production today.
Beeple’s practice, shaped by his long running Everydays series, marks a shift in how digital art enters institutional contexts. Together with Lisa Botti, we discuss the challenges and possibilities of exhibiting AI based works in a museum and how the Neue Nationalgalerie approaches display and mediation.
