Today’s Library tidbit comes to us from Debbie. Debbie wears many hats here at the library, working in circulation, damages, and on the display committee.
Debbie came on to the podcast today to talk to us about our library displays which for the month of September are about Hurricane Preparedness, our Welcome Week and Issues that Matter: Food Drive.
Even though this year hasn’t been as exciting as last year, for which we are all grateful, it’s still important to prepare your home for hurricane season. Below are some links that Debbie referred to on how to prepare and what you will need should a hurricane strike.
But remember should the worst happen as long as we are able to the Largo Public Library will be available to help you find needed forms, give you a place to come that is out of the heat and where you can charge devices, and is full of free entertainment.

Hello and welcome to Book Traveler. My name is Victor and I am the Outreach librarian at Largo Public Library. Today I am going to talk about Carry On by Rainbow Rowell.
A Synopsis: Simon Snow is considered the most powerful magician in the world. He is seventeen years old and he is the Chosen One, the only one who can save the world. He and his friends study at Watford, a school of magic.
My Opinion: Rainbow Rowell has had a lot of success recently in young adult literature. I’ve read other books of hers, Fangirl and Attachments, and loved them. Her stories are not too complicated, but they have something that catches you and makes you want to stay in those worlds. Rowell’s books are great for escaping reality and the problems of everyday life.
Unlike Attachments and Fangirl, Carry On is a fantasy novel. It is related to Fangirl, though. The characters in Carry On are the same characters that Cath obsesses over in Fangirl. I like this relationship between the two books. A lot of Carry On seems based on the Harry Potter novels and I thought Rowell was successful in referencing Harry Potter while also creating a world of magic that is very different.
Simon Snow is clearly Harry Potter, although this time, despite being the Chosen One, Simon cannot control his magic and everyone expects something from him that he cannot give them. Penelope could be the Hermione of this book. She is as intelligent and there is no spell that she can’t perform.
