It has been said that the best things in life are a long time coming. David has been waiting on the fulfillment of God’s promise to make him king. The nation has been waiting on the fulfillment of God’s promise that the land would be completely theirs. David has been waiting for 15 years with the obstacle of King Saul and his house standing in his way. The nation has been waiting for 300 years to finally rid the land of the Jebusites and finally take Jerusalem with the fortified walls of the city standing in their way. David and the nation will learn two very important truths in 2 Samuel 5 that are necessary for us to remember as well. One, the barriers that are seemingly keeping us from the fulfillment of God’s promises are not obstacles but opportunities for the Lord to demonstrate His power.
