The design is the core of architecture and urban planning. The design needs a space to develop a project. Nowadays with the technology available, this space can be virtual. The virtual space offers tools like: virtual dimensions and communication at different times. With the virtual design the location of the designers doesn't matter because they get connected on the internet and they can interact with other people by email or in a video conference session. The designers have tools to solve a design problem, with the virtual space the design problem can be divided among the participants, and each one is responsible for a part of the problem. Another tool of the virtual space is the communication time, this could be synchronous or asynchronous. The synchronous time needs the simultaneous presence of the designers involved in the problem and in the asynchronous time the designers can work at different times. In my opinion the virtual space is a good tool for architecture or urban planning, because it permits design in different programs through the internet, the designers can communicate with other people like critics or other designers in different times, and make 3D models before they can be constructed.
