There are some references to Biblical prophecy as two of the main characters suspect that the events happening could be the beginning of the Tribulation. Don't expect a religious book though. Some of the characters use real-world adult language.
There are some that feel very threatened by one of the female characters and her feelings towards the married leader of the group, and the reaction of the wife. They just don't seem to understand how strong the trust and love can be between a close couple, and close friends, even during times of temptation.
