Despite being a fixture of the series, it has never been approached with the depth and perspective that this new movie does. Even though it seems sense that four mutant turtles would not blend in with humanity, this topic is frequently brought up without being further discussed. The brothers often had each other, significant threats, and a small number of humans to survive. This time, however, not even their human friend April O'Neil is welcomed and is openly shunned, at least by her neighborhood. Every character in the movie is motivated by this sense of rejection and a desire to fit in, which forges connections between the many characters and to the audience as a whole.
