From the Henssler Financial Studios this is your news minute on the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast, presented by Dayco Systems. Today is Wednesday June 28rth, and I'm Brian Giffin.
Marietta Mayor Steve Tumlin is urging the Georgia Senate to pass a bill aimed at combating antisemitism in response to recent incidents in the city. A neo-Nazi rally organized by the Goyim Defense League took place in front of a synagogue in Cobb County, followed by the distribution of antisemitic flyers in Marietta. The same group has been linked to similar activities nationwide. Mayor Tumlin, along with the City Council and other community leaders, condemns these actions and plans to issue a statement denouncing such behavior. Tumlin also expresses support for State Representative John Carson's House Bill 30, which seeks to create an official state definition of antisemitism and include it under Georgia's hate crimes law. The bill would criminalize the use of swastikas or Nazi imagery to terrorize individuals. Tumlin argues that while protests and free speech are protected, hateful language and symbols that incite lawless action should be addressed, and law enforcement should have the legal means to control such situations.
