This activity is targeted toward primary care physicians and advanced providers.

Statement of Need
This podcast explores the evolving landscape of perinatal diabetes care. Diabetes poses significant risks during pregnancy, delivery, and the postpartum period. Yet, many patients enter pregnancy without adequate metabolic control, and systemic barriers often prevent optimal care coordination. The clinical complexities of managing diabetes across the perinatal timeline, including preconception counseling, glycemic targets during pregnancy, delivery planning, and postpartum follow-up will be discussed.

Objectives

1.     Define current clinical guidelines for the screening and diagnosis of gestational diabetes.

2.     Discuss the role of preconception counseling, including optimization of metabolic control and medication management in patients with or at risk for diabetes during pregnancy.

3.     Describe evidence-based pharmacologic management, including the use of insulin, for diabetes during and after pregnancy.

4.     Recognize the short- and long-term maternal and fetal risks associated with gestational diabetes.
