As much as we enjoy bright colors, big dance numbers, and wild plot twists, we also love when Hindi cinema slows down a bit, and gives us something sweet and simple to sink our teeth into. Today's movie is Laapataa Ladies, which tells the story of two brides who accidentally swap places on their train ride to their new husbands' homes. Under the veil of a comedy/love story, this film is really about growth, independence, and self-actualization for women in rural India. We're so excited that this was India's pick for Best International Film at The Oscars, and can't wait to find out if it gets nominated!
