Doctor Lindsay Hallam, Senior Lecturer in Film at the University of East London, has selected the film Wake in Fright, Ted Kotcheff's 1971 atmospheric depiction of the Australian outback, a hellish descent into moral degradation that has now gained a cult reputation.
