Centuries ago there lived -
"A king!" my little readers will say immediately. No, children, you are mistaken. Once upon a time there was a piece of wood.
That piece of wood became our beloved little liar, Pinocchio. But the original version, written by Carlo Collodi in the early 1880s, is a far cry from when Disney has made us a bit more familiar with. Rather than a simple story to teach young ones the importance of being honest and virtuous (though that's part of it), it's more of a political satire.
