In the tradition of Zora Neale Hurston, I share the stories of Black Americans in their own voices and in their own words. I do not bleep out any of the four-letter words that the poet Starr uses in her conversation with me. I seek to preserve her colorful language full of metaphors, similes, and some four-letter-words.
