Listen

Description

Listen to poet Starr Davis from Ohio share what it was like to have a baby and move and change jobs during the Covid-19 pandemic. In my very first podcast episode I’m interviewing my friend, my colleague, and my MFA classmate: Starr. She is also an editor and an instructress.

In the tradition of Zora Neale Hurston, I share the stories of Black Americans in their own voices and in their own words. I do not bleep out any of the four-letter words that the poet Starr uses in her conversation with me. I seek to preserve her colorful language full of metaphors, similes, and some four-letter-words. Hence, the note that this “episode contains explicit content.” While listener discretion is advised, behold Starr’s academic and colloquial mingling that makes Black oral history so vibrant.
