Taking responsibility has been an issue for humanity since the time of Adam and Eve. After Adam and Eve fell into sin, God confronted them. What was there response? “Lord, we have sinned greatly against you, please forgive us, we don’t deserve your grace and mercy.” Unfortunately, their response was much different. Eve blamed the serpent, Adam blamed Eve and here we are in the predicament we are today. Admitting our wrongs is very hard to do. Our flesh hates it, and the pride within us bucks against it. Proverbs 12:1 states, “Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but whoever hates correction is stupid.” Who likes to be corrected? Pretty much no one. But as Christians we know it’s for our good and God’s glory. In marriage God wants us to take responsibility. Colossians 3:18,19 “Wives, be subject to your husbands…Husbands, love your wives.” These commands when unpacked lead us back to creation, to the cross, to Christ, to the church where we see God is a God of order, a God of purpose, a God of design. His commands have rich meaning and point back to His glorious grace found in our Savior Jesus Christ.
