Description

There are perhaps many ways to answer the question, “What is a Christian?” You could say, “A Christian is someone who follows Jesus,” or “It’s someone who puts their faith and trust in Christ.” These definitions are of course true, and with them comes the underlining heart condition of every follower of Christ—humility. Pride has no place in the Christian life and Jesus said plainly unless you humble yourself like a child you cannot enter the kingdom of heaven. Christians are converted with humble hearts and enter the kingdom with humble hearts realizing they are unworthy of it all. Another way to answer the question, What is a Christian?” is to say it’s someone who guards themselves from the damning and deceitful power of idols. Scripture has a lot to say about idolatry, and it’s incumbent upon all Christians to guard themselves from the alluring, deceitful power of riches, wealth, possessions or anything that could destroy their faith. Jesus was clear in Luke 12 vs 15 when He said, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed.” Colossians 3 vs 5 tell us greed is idolatry. Christians are always on guard, remembering the warning, “Let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.”
