He has worked at the American Society for Psychical Research in New York City and at the Rhine Research Center in Durham, North Carolina.
He is presently a research fellow at the Parapsychology Foundation.
Matlock's chief research interests are the history of parapsychology, anthropology of religion, and reincarnation. He teaches a 15-week online seminar course on reincarnation research and theory.
In October, 2014, he formed a group called Signs of Reincarnation on Facebook in order to make reincarnation research better known to the public. Matlock also has learned much about reincarnation experiences from that group. He presented some cases that came to his attention in a book field researcher Erlendur Haraldsson invited me to co-author with him. I Saw a Light and Came Here: Children’s Experiences of Reincarnation (Haraldsson & Matlock, 2016) was published by White Crow Books in the spring of 2017.
