Today we discuss Colleen's pick: When Harry Met Sally...

When hopeless cynic Harry Burns (Billy Crystal) first meets hopeful romantic Sally Albright (Meg Ryan) it’s not love at first sight. As they drive across the country together from the University of Chicago to New York City, the two can’t seem to agree on anything, especially when it comes to matters of the heart. They part as strangers because, as Harry tells Sally, men and women can never be friends, because the sex part always gets in the way.

But fate ensures that these polar opposites keep meeting — and arguing— over the years, until a chance encounter allows them to commiserate over their recent heartbreaks and they decide to give friendship a try. When an unplanned night of passion puts their friendship to the test, Harry and Sally must finally find their way back together.

1989 — written by Nora Ephron. Directed by Rob Reiner.
