Inspired by Paul VanderKlay, I decided get out of lurkdom and start commenting on videos again. And ever since I saw Just Some Guy without a Mustache, a YouTube channel with hundreds of thousands of subscribers through commenting alone, I knew I had to talk about the impact of YouTube comment sections. Despite most users being silent lurkers, comments shape conversations and impact content in surprising ways.
