“But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope,” the LORD says through St. Paul. “For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.” (1 Thessalonians 4:13–14, ESV) To listen to this conversation with Jason Schockman, recorded just two days after his father’s funeral, is to hear a man grieving with hope… and to speak with poignant reverence for his faithful, Christian mother.
“Week 1” of “Grieving with Hope” is the first of a handful of interviews we’ll do with Rev. Schockman over the next couple years as we walk through the valley of the shadow of death toward the green pastures of eternal life. Our goal is to provide an insight into Christian hope, and—in the conversation itself—to come alongside our friend and colleague.
