On Sunday, June 12, 2022, the IRONMAN North American Championships will be flooding downtown Des Moines with swimmers, cyclists and runners as athletes from around the world compete in the 140-mile event. They will swim 2.4 miles in Grey's Lake, ride 112 miles through DeSoto, Redfield, Winterset, Cumming and back to Des Moines, then run three laps around Grey's Lake and downtown to complete the 26.2 marathon. CISN's Dave Mable talked with a Des Moines professional triathlete and coach Tyson Wieland about the course, the impact on Des Moines as well as what he's done to prepare and how he expects to manage the distances that day.
