Hey guys! Welcome to another amazing episode of Coinology: The Podcast. We kick off Women’s History Month by sitting down with Emmy-nominated Executive Producer, Tamra Simmons. Tamra served as an Executive Producer on Surviving R. Kelly, as Producer on Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta, and as an Executive Producer on the notorious Casey Anthony documentary, Where the Truth Lies.
Tamra shares her experience of growing up in Tennessee without industry mentors, being ‘boxed-in’ to niche content, franchising one of the top celebrity shows in reality history, Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta, and keeping her integrity by walking away from a million-dollar contract. Tamra intuitively knew that content creation was her true calling, so she stays true to that. With a successful career in television development, she quickly learned the importance of black female representation in Executive Production, and her true take on ‘cancel culture’.
“I know that when I walk in a room, I can sell a show. I’m not afraid of the word no.” - Tamra Simmons.
Tamra’s soft and ambitious energy is both humbling and inspiring. This conversation will leave you feeling motivated and understanding that one thousand no’s will lead you to the yes that is meant for you. Grab your pen, paper and maybe your favorite cocktail and get ready for an intimate conversation with The Certified Deal Closer, Ebony Porter-Ike and her guests, as she begins her journey to redefine the definition of The Talented Tenth. Originally coined by W.E.B. DuBois, in the 20th century, Ebony Porter-Ike is on a mission to discover the DNA and success factors required to elevate the African American race to its highest potential in business.
