Spiritual growth is stunted
1 Corinthians 3:1-9
One of the criticisms of Paul’s ministry by the Corinthians was that his messages were too elementary and simple. Here he answers that criticism by telling them why his messages were elementary and simple and why he gave the Corinthians such a simple spiritual diet.
“I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ” verse 1. Paul had to speak with such simplicity in his preaching and teaching in Corinth because the people were carnal.
“I have fed you with milk, and not with meat” verse 2. Furthermore, Paul had to give the people a simple diet in teaching because the people were unable to digest a more advanced teaching.
“Hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able” verse 2. This problem of carnality and not growing up spiritually had existed a long time in the Corinth Church .
