Spiritual Parents
1 Corinthians 4:14-21
The analogy that Paul used to distinguish himself from all the others who had played a part in their spiritual pilgrimage was the difference between an instructor and a parent. In his use of "my beloved children" Verse 14 we see his feelings of love and tenderness for them. In Ephesians he counsels fathers not to be so harsh with their children that they would provoke them to wrath (Eph 6:4). Here Paul, functioning as a spiritual father, follows his own advice as he calls upon his paternal relationship with them as a basis for unity.
